Herbal Honey Cough Syrup:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon of your choice of dried or powdered herbs
  • 1 tablespoon your choice of dried or powdered herbs
  • Optional: herbs such as sage, licorice root, or ginger for additional soothing properties

Instructions:

  • In a saucepan, combine the honey and dried herbs.
  • Heat the mixture over low heat, allowing it to warm gently for about 20-30 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  • Make sure the mixture doesn’t reach boiling point to preserve the beneficial properties of the honey and herbs.
  • After simmering, remove the saucepan from the heat and let the mixture cool.
  • Strain the herbs from the syrup using a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth, pressing to extract as much liquid as possible.
  • Transfer the herbal honey syrup to a clean, airtight container or bottle.

This homemade herbal honey cough syrup can be taken in small spoonfuls as needed for cough relief. The combination of honey and herbs, particularly thyme and marshmallow root, can help soothe the throat and calm coughs. Store the syrup in the refrigerator for up to a few weeks. Remember to consult a healthcare professional, especially if you have underlying health conditions or are taking medications, before using homemade remedies.
